OPENING DAY!

Opening day!
I love baseball.
In my next life I would like to play first base for the New York Mets.
One of my biggest thrills in my illustration career was when I received a call from Major League Baseball.
I had the honor of doing illustrations for the 2008 World Series and and Playoff programs.
Each program is in the Baseball Hall of Fame! So in a round about way I made it in!

I still pinch myself thinking about that day.

Back in 2008 I had the plan of creating my own baseball card series of a fictional team called the Hoboken Hackers.
The idea was to send these oversized promotional postcards (8.5x5.5)  as a mailer.
The one and only card I made was  the Hackers aging slugger Crash McGee.
I sent one to an art director at MLB. Mailers do work!

  1. Mike - now I want to do a mailer and send it out! Haven't done one in years ... I wonder if it would bring in a fish this big? Doubt it! Congrats on that awesome job - I had not seen these drawings before!

  2. Hey Kyle,
    That one worked out well.
Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
I just have a small run of postcards printed and send to a small targeted list I have.
I still have fun doing them and sending them out.

  3. Great stuff Mike. I look forward to a great year of Braves/Mets.
    Finishing in that order, preferably.

  4. Hey Dave,thanks!
I think you can put the Mets at the bottom of the list this year.
    But I still love them!
